When we launched the Explorer Program in 2020 with just 20 Explorers, our goal was simple yet ambitious: to increase both the quality and diversity of angel investors across Australia and New Zealand. This mission remains unchanged.

Fast forward to August 2025, nearly 500 operators, technologists, and founders have completed the program, all graduating with the tools, knowledge, community and passion to back the next generation of startups. The return of Explorers comes at an inflection point for our local sector, as Airtree launches our latest fund, bringing on board a huge new cohort of global investors.

The next generation of angels

The Explorer network has become one of the most energised, generous, and diverse communities in the ANZ startup ecosystem. Our alumni have gone on to shape the startup landscape. Some have formed syndicates or funds of their own, while others have become founders themselves.

Over the next eight weeks, this cohort will develop expertise in all aspects of investing by learning directly from experienced angels, syndicate leads, and the Airtree team. Their curriculum covers everything from sourcing deals and conducting due diligence to navigating term sheets.

Meet Cohort 9 👋

Now, we're thrilled to introduce the 59 Explorers in Cohort 9 — our most regionally diverse group yet. While they come from varied backgrounds, experiences, and locations, they all share a common commitment and passion to support ANZ's future founders. Check out their profiles below to see what types of startups they’re interested in and how they can help.
